Screens FAQ

British Columbia Institute of Technology completed a study 2019 which found our Talius product reduces heat gain by 4x times more than the window film, it also reduced more shortwave radiation and window temperature by significant amounts.

Solar energy enters our atmosphere as shortwave radiation in the form of ultraviolet (UV) rays (the ones that give us sunburn) and visible light. The sun emits shortwave radiation because it is extremely hot and has a lot of energy to give off. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun (shortwave radiation) is said to cause 65% to 90% of melanoma of the skin, which accounts for three-fourths of all skin cancer deaths.1,2 Additionally, the sun’s UV rays can also cause cataracts and other damage to the eye. BCIT’s study of Talius screens found our product to reduce up to 98% of short wave radiation!

All of our products are made to order, installation and sizing of the unit will affect the cost. The best way to find out what an install will cost is to call and set up a free, no-obligation estimate where we can properly diagnose what you’re looking for and which product will be the best value.

We have a variety of screen, and shutter color selection. We would be happy to show you our samples when we do a consultation.

Dark colors are easiest to see through because dark colors absorb most of the sun’s light and glare, light colors tend to reflect light back to your eyes.

Yes. This is what makes Screens so practical and appealing. Screen’s block the heat/glare of the sun’s rays, and provide excellent privacy.

We mount our units on the exterior of the building to stop the sun’s heat before hitting your glass. Interior mounted blinds only offer privacy protection; however, they still allow the heat to penetrate the home through the window.

Talius Screens are produced using Phifer’s vinyl-coated polyester fabric which is specifically engineered for exterior applications. Phifer products come in a variety of colors as well as three different openness factors, 5%, 10% and 45%. The fabrics are very durable and look great. They’re excellent protection from the sun’s heat and glare, wind and insects.

Yes. Screens are the ideal solution for creating shade, privacy and insect protection for patios, gazebos, and decks.

The way our screens are retained using Talius’ unique edge retention system uses a zipper system that keeps the screen in a track. This greatly reduces the number of insects entering your home or patio while the screen is in the down position.

When the Screens are in the downward position, Talius’ unique edge retention system allows the Screens to withstand winds up to 100 mph depending on the size and mounting conditions of the Screen unit. This is an estimation of wind loads only. Internationally recognized testing in a controlled environment to determine these estimates. As Mother Nature does not act in this same controlled way performance may vary. In areas susceptible to high winds, we strongly recommend the use of a wind sensor to protect the integrity of the Screen. We do not recommend that you operate your Screens in windy conditions. Downward operation is hampered during windy conditions due to the friction and resistance created by the wind pushing against the screen fabric. Upward operation can be performed even in windy conditions.
